Vibe

Leos Jiu Jitsu Academy is one of the most welcoming places to train in Okinawa. The atmosphere is relaxed, fun, and beginner friendly while still offering solid technical instruction for anyone who wants to improve. I have trained with both Professor Myke and Professor Andy and I recommend them both. They are patient, knowledgeable, and create a positive environment on the mats.

Whether you are brand new to jiu jitsu or just dropping in while visiting Okinawa, this academy makes it easy to feel comfortable and included.

Facilities

Beautifully clean and spacious gym, well‑maintained facility with separate men’s and women’s toilets, they do not have a shower but do have a changing space.

Visitor Notes

Drop‑in fee varies depending on the class.

Reaching out via social media before visiting is recommended.

Staff speaks Japanese, Portuguese, and English

Training Style

Classes are built around clear technical instruction with plenty of time to drill and apply techniques. Both Myke and Andy do a great job breaking things down in a way that beginners can follow while still giving experienced grapplers something to work with.

Training highlights:

  • Technical instruction with attention to detail

  • A friendly and relaxed vibe

  • Drilling with purpose

  • Live rounds that are safe, respectful, and self paced

This is a gym where you can train hard without feeling pressured or out of place.

Good For

Leos Jiu Jitsu Academy is a great fit for:

  • Beginners looking for a welcoming place to start

  • High level grapplers who want to train with elite black belts

  • Visitors wanting a friendly drop in experience

  • Hobbyists who enjoy a fun and relaxed training environment

  • Families with kids

If you are looking for a home gym or just want to get some rolls in while you are in Okinawa, this academy is an easy recommendation.

My Experience

Every time I have trained at Leos Jiu Jitsu Academy it has been a great experience. The vibe is light, friendly, and community focused. Myke and Andy both bring a positive energy to the room and the students follow that lead. Everyone is respectful, welcoming, and fun to train with.

Both Myke and Andy are very skilled black belts and they do an excellent job of adjusting the level of challenge based on who they are working with. No matter what your experience level is, they will make sure you are learning, improving, and getting rounds that push you in the right way.

It is the kind of place where beginners feel comfortable, visitors feel included, and everyone gets good rounds in. If you are in Okinawa and want a solid place to train, Leos Jiu Jitsu Academy is definitely worth checking out.
