THE OKINAWA INVITATIONAL 4 RESULTS
80KG Champion Crowned AFTER A DAY of High-Level Grappling in Okinawa
This past weekend’s double elimination tournament debuted our men’s 80kg championship and elite grapplers flew in from all over the world to fight for the belt! Our local grapplers saw competition from mainland Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, The U.S., and even flying all the way from Germany and Brazil! From the first match to the final belt ceremony, the mats were a showcase of beautiful technique as well as raw grappling aggression and power. High level teams including Piramide Grappling, Leos Jiu Jitsu, 10th Planet San Diego, and Imanari Jiu Jitsu were all represented at this event. In the end it was Marco Aurellio De Queiroz from Piramide Grappling in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil that took the championship belt winning 4 of his 5 matches by submission. Our second place finisher Genki Yamaguchi also had an amazing run through the bracket scoring some phenomenal finishes.
Early Highlights: Fights That Set the Tone
Grappling brown belt phenom Ibuki Arimatsu scored the fastest sub of the event with a 25 second leg lock. He then went on to win multiple impressive battles taking out one black belt and almost beating out champion Marco Aurellio De Queiroz in overtime.
Also hats off to our break out star of the event, Indiana Keirn. He came into this tournament as a last minute replacement for Mateus Hirotomi. With no time for preparation this 18 year old purple belt walked in and put on a spectacular performance, taking out two very seasoned brown belts before finally having his run ended by the champion and second place finisher.
Our 80kg champion Marco Arellio De Queiroz also took home the Scrambles Most Submissions bonus, scoring 4 submissions in regulation and 1 in overtime!
